History:
Daphne's Caravans
began in 1996 when I wanted a
outdoor project and a private place of my own. Working with an old farm
wagon, memories of gypsies from childhood books, my woodworking skills
and my imagination, I created my dream space in the summer of 1997.
Familiar with the Tardis?
Dr. Who's space/time-travelling wonder? Tiny on
the outside but infinitely large inside. My first caravan is like
that - with a floor space that's only 11' by 3 1/2', I have a
comfortable bed, a cushioned bench, a flip-up table, shelves and a tall
cupboard, as well as storage space under the bed and bench! Any wall
space is filled with treasures.
Interest
from family and friends,
and the fun of creating, has kept me designing and building ever
since. Each caravan remains an individual project, built specifically to
match its future owner's dreams, imagination and purpose.
In 2004,
I created a new experience for caravan lovers who are also DIYs:
Caravan
School. See the
the Build-your-own section for details.
In 2007,
my younger daughter joined me in building, so now it's a family
affair!
Alas,
no caravans in 2008 and 2009 while I was back at school full-time.
But I graduated (as a homeopath) in June 2010, so I am back to building!
Now I am living
in a small town,
and have the space and time to build again.
If you're
thinking of building your own caravan,
feel free to get in touch. Maybe I can help with some ideas and
pointers!
